Storm Dispatch: Telluride, Colorado
A photo gallery of the “epic” San Juan storm from Brett Schreckengost

The ski season in Telluride has already reached “epic” status among locals.

Local photographer Brett Schreckengost shot this gallery for the latest Storm Dispatch. He reports that the season total is right around 220 inches and the ski hill is coming off its biggest December and January in 10 years. Last month, 62.5 inches followed the second largest December on record, which saw 85.5 inches.

The backcountry hazard has been good by San Juan standards and people have been getting after all the big mountain lines since December. El Nino seems to be delivering this year. The latest round of storms was a season highlight with the first wave hitting the last week of January delivering some serious cold smoke: ultra-dry, low-density pow. This was followed by another four-day storm at the end of the month and into early February that set up multiple powder mornings. The base is solid, desert rivers are gonna run, and the town is stoked as the heart of the season bears down.
